I have a really interesting role at Vela, where I am responsible for creating and maintaining the information for our client-facing documentation that relates to Vela’s products. It is important that the information I collate is accurate, easy to understand, and engaging for our clients. The information sheets can be the first resource our clients go to when they have a question about a Vela product.
On the market data side of the role, I provide analysis for support issues relating to content, alongside defining mappings for new and existing feeds as well as exchange-driven changes. There is always something new for me to learn here at Vela and this development side of my role is important for me to progress forward.
I am part of the Engineering team and work across the market data and execution products so I have a lot of variety in my day-to-day work. We are always looking for ways to improve efficiency; and over the next few months, I’ll be working on a project to streamline our internal processes for documentation to help make things work better and easier.
We typically have a Market Data Modelling (MDM) team scrum three days a week. It’s a great way to collaborate with my colleagues on current projects and establish a rapport with the team. There is so much knowledge and experience within the team and it’s always helpful when we all get together. It allows me to tap into that experience and helps me develop in my own role here.
I joined Vela a few short months ago so due to COVID-19, I haven’t visited the office just yet. I know it’s in a great location in Belfast and look forward to when I can spend time there working alongside my team members in person. With that said, working from home has been a good learning experience and I am just as productive at home as I would be in an office setting. That’s thanks to the video conferencing tools and technologies that we use to keep in touch with everyone.
Since completing my degree, I’ve been looking for a Business Analyst role so I was thrilled to get the job at Vela. I feel like all my hard work and determination has paid off and that has given me the dedication to embrace the role and learn about the fintech space.
Due to the current environment of working remotely, I haven’t yet been able to enjoy the social side of Vela at its fullest, but I have taken part in some of events, like the virtual quiz which included employees from all the different offices. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to the next events so I can continue to meet more of the Belfast team, even if it is through video conferencing. I have received a really warm virtual welcome from my team and other colleagues in the company. I’m really looking forward to the day when I can meet my new colleagues in person.
